Our most common questions

What age to start retriever training?



Well, the short answer is as soon as you get home with your eight-week-old puppy. Socialization and prey-drive development are of key importance in this stage of your dog's life. Now, if you’re asking about formal training with us, we like to begin all dogs at 5 months old.

Where are you located?



Four Flyways Retrievers is located in Half Acre, Alabama. We are two hours from Montgomery, AL, two hours and forty minutes from Birmingham, AL, two hours from Mobile, AL, one hour from Merdian, MS, two and a half hours from Jackson, MS, and two hours and forty-five minutes from Hattiesburg, MS.

Where will my dog be staying?



Our dogs in training stay in our custom-designed indoor kennel facilities. They are AC-cooled in the summer and heated in the winter. Each dog has its own 5x10 pen with a Kuranda cot and fresh water. The facilities are washed and cleaned multiple times a day to maintain a healthy environment, and your dog has a scheduled feeding time every day of your preference. Yes, we like seeing our dogs living like kings and queens!

Is my dog a lost cause?



We have worked and trained with hundreds of dogs, including almost every breed. First things first, the dog will need to undergo a thorough evaluation of its problems and habits. This is so we can create a perfect training style that fits them best.Most are easy fixes that rely on simple attitude adjustments or psychological rearrangements. Within weeks, I can guarantee we will know if the dog will make it through our program! Dogs that fear guns or water can also be fixed.

When is payment due?



Payment for our programs is due at the end of each month.

How often will I get to visit my dog?



This is a fan-favorite question! Here at FFR, we schedule a strict visitation schedule that benefits the owners substantially; during a consistent 3-week schedule, you’ll have time designated to come watch and train with your dog while we walk you through each step, drill, and concept that the dog is learning at the time. It’s important to us that you have a strong understanding of how your particular dog has been developed so there’s no confusion or miscommunication between you and the dog when you take them home.

Do you just train Labrador Retrievers?



While we do love our labs, we don’t discriminate! We’ve built this kennel off the idea that if your dog shows drive, we will do the rest. Morgan’s trained almost every breed of bird dogs and mixed breeds to even odd ball breeds.

Can you fix a dogs shyness or water shyness?



You’ve got to first find out if the dog is shy, meaning not quite sure about something, or are they terrified. You can fix shyness, but it may not be worth the time required to fix a dog that hates water or gunshots. In most cases, we’ve been able to correct the dog’s shyness factor and develop an excellent retriever. It may just take a considerable amount of time to undo a psychological problem that doesn’t fall in our averaged time estimate for our programs.

Is my dog too old to train?



The older they get, the more we must undo, but we have trained dogs well into their years! We can get the job done as long as they are healthy and willing to work!
